We are off to an excellent start with our current events presentations and responses. Some students have done some great work and you should check out their blogs to help guide you in your preparation of your presentation and/or response posts.

For some high-quality examples of the Current Events Initial Postings, make sure you look at Lilian’s, Tilly’s, Adam’s, Michael’s, and Johan’s blogs.

For some fine examples of the Current Events Response Postings, make sure you look at Mahera’s, Bryan’s, and Devon’s blogs.

You are responsible for checking the calendars linked below and coming to class prepared. Your current event presentation and current event response are due on the date you see your name on the calendar.

You may use computers and the Internet connection at school in the technology lab or in the library if you encounter problems. Refer to the student planner for information about how your grade will be lowered if your work is late.

Come and see me if you have any questions before the day your assignment is due so I can help solve any problems you may encounter.

You need to finish the group current events assignment that we were working on in class.

On the resource page please use the following guidelines from your current events overview asignment sheet: Requirements for my Oral Presentation / Initial Posting.

If you need help, a preparation sheet is available on the resources page of the blog to guide you through the preparation.

Also, use the sample current events blog posting from class to double check your work.

To ensure you will receive a good grade on your posting, grade yourself with the Current Events Initial Blog Posting Rubric.

Be ready to present your group current events next class!

Your job is to:

1. Find an acceptable current events article. We recommend that you use one of the current events links from this page.

2. Read the article.

3. Include a link to your article in your post.

4. Copy and paste the title of this assignment into the title of your post.

5. Write an explanation of the event in your post. Give a brief summary in your own words of what happened.

6. Answer the question (and copy and paste into your post): Who is affected and how? Post your answer in your blog.

Now that you have had a chance to read through our Sample Current Events Posting we would like you to practice writing a “Response Posting” on your OWN blog.

Your task is to:

1. Read the sample current events posting.

2. Find an article for one of the statements below:

a. Find another article about the same event and describe what new information has emerged.

b. Find a similar event and write about how they are connected.

3. Include a link to the article that you found (by copying and pasting the URL into the your post — make sure to leave a space before and after the URL).

4. Include a link back to this homework post.

5. Use the title of this post as the title of your post.

6. Answer both of the questions below:

a. What did you find interesting about this topic?

b. What did you like about the initial blog posting?

7. Post your answer on YOUR BLOG.
